In the Investor's mind, "Risk," is the possibility of something losing value. But without some risk there is no hope for a gain. And possibly, the greater the risk, the greater the gain. Marijuana has provided a lot of gain for quite a longtime. As we all know, those gains have been realized through Black Market activity with Very High Risk.
I have a vivid childhood memory of a neighbor that was busted with several pounds of Marijuana. Twenty Two, if I remember correctly. The family seemed to do very well. That was exemplified by fancy Boats, Cars, and spoiled children. They operated a Detail Shop. So I guess the Viper was, "Advertising,". But it still didn't quite fit the neighborhood. On the forefront of my memory is everything being seized by the Police! The house was taped off with bright yellow plastic tape labeled, "Police Line Do Not Cross" like someone got shot. As a matter of fact, we all thought someone got killed at first. We didn't know he was smuggling or selling Marijuana. The Cigarette Boat and Dodge Viper we all admired, towed. I didn't see the Boat removed, but that Viper went right past my Parent's House on the back of a White Flatbed Truck. But, today we are on the forefront of a possible change in the mindset and risk of gains from Marijuana. We just might be able to retain that which we gain from the, "Good Ole Weed"!
As food for thought, there are two distinct sects appearing in the United States. Those two sects are recreational and medicinal, with the previous carrying the most risk. Portugal was on the forefront and heavily watched, as the first Nation to decriminalize recreational drugs. It's cool to have it there, but don't get caught dealing! Canada has positioned itself as the Nation to specifically embrace Recreational Marijuana. It's been a longtime since I visited Canada, but I can only imagine how profound the aroma of Cannabis is in the City of Quebec. Hash was favored the last time I visited... The Jamaicans sold a Black Gooey and very strong Hashish. I'd imagine right about now, those Jamaican Hash Dealers are begging for work at a factory!
Consider the legalities in the United States. Investors' must understand the risk is heavy because Federally Marijuana is illegal. With that in mind, at any given time, the companies behind Pot Stocks, growing Marijuana, could not only cease to exist but face Federal Charges. However, most Americans believe that at least for Medicinal-Use, Marijuana and it's products should be legalized. If we close our eyes and think of Medicinal Marijuana users, we don't picture Sean Penn's character in the 80's film, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. But I don't know of any laws banning CBD Oils or products derived from Marijuana.
What's happening in Portugal and Canada is likely a harbinger of where we are going; and looking through the lens... it looks good! But that's a very strong lens we are looking through. Putting aside the innuendos, it's not going to happen for a VERY, VERY, VERY longtime. You will likely catch the strong scent of a, "Joint," walking through Center City Philadelphia, but I highly doubt the US will ever go full blown, "Federally," Legalized. The United States migration and potential gains, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, will be from embracing Medical Marijuana.
Currently 35 States have legalized Medical Marijuana. A handful of Cities and States have waged their own battles between legalizing Recreational use. In my opinion, if you can't tell already, don't touch a US Marijuana Grower. Once again, it's illegal Federally. The Growers in Netflix; Murder Mountain... they bury their cash because they are afraid to deposit anything in a Bank. Which also may explain the reason none of the Pot Stocks declare profits.
A Pot Stock that is a Maker of Marijuana Drugs. A few months ago, I got out my shovel and started digging for Penny Stocks focused on Medicinal Marijuana and came across... Marijuana Company of America... better known as, "MCOA," by Investment Banks!
